Extreme Makeover: Basement Edition

I am so excited to finally share #ProjectNewland with all of you - Let me tell you this one is worth sticking around for. The Before and After pictures on this project are D-R-A-M-A-T-I-C!

This basement was trendy in the 70's but it was time for this family to update the space to reflect their current style. When an unexpected flood destroyed the space, we had to act sooner rather than later.

Before Situation: There was so much water damage that the entire basement had to be taken down to the studs. We did a complete design of the space to reflect this families current needs.

When you have the opportunity to start from scratch, you want to make sure you get it right. One of the major improvements in this space was getting rid of the dropped ceilings and raising them in the areas that we could. We added a beautiful linear fireplace and cozy new furniture, built in bar, finished storage room with a sink, a kids play area and a small workspace.

The Reveal

We kept the space feeling light and airy by sticking to neutral colours and adding a pop of Blue colour. Reclaimed beams were also added for visual interest. Adding in elements of nature is always a great way to warm up a space.

The living area is a perfect space for entertaining and relaxing by the fire. The Home Stylist sourced all of the materials from beginning to end to create a cohesive look.

Staircase: Before & After

We did a complete revamp of the staircase from top to bottom. We widened the risers and added a beautifully stained maple banister and plush berber carpet.

On the opposite side of the basement we created a flex space perfect for entertaining, getting some work done and for the grandkids to play. All of the components on this side of the room can easily be moved around. The "desk" folds up into a console table and can also be moved into the centre of the room to be used as a game table. The kids play area can also be moved easily to create space for entertaining.

And last but not least our bar space...

We added in a timeless white built-in bar space perfect for entertaining and storing munchies for movie time. Behind the bar we created a storage room complete with a deep freezer, fridge and sink for doing dishes.

Thanks for stopping by and taking a peak at one of my latest projects. I would love to hear what you think. If you have any upcoming projects big or small The Home Stylist is here to help!
